Σεπτέμβριος 1976, ορεινή Θεσπρωτία. Η μητέρα, μετά από προτροπή του δασκάλου του χωριού προτείνει στην εντεκάχρονη κόρη της να συνεχίσει το σχολείο της στα Γιάννενα, φιλοξενούμενη στο Οικοτροφείο Θηλέων. Οι δύο γυναίκες ξεκινούν με το λεωφορείο για τα Γιάννενα, φτάνουν στο οικοτροφείο μιλούν με τον διευθυντή. Η μητέρα γυρίζει το ίδιο πρωί στο χωριό. Η κοπέλα ξεναγείται στο οικοτροφείο από μια παιδαγωγό και μια συνομήλικη της. Κεντάει στα σεντόνια της το νούμερο της, κάνει περίπατο στον κήπο του οικοτροφείου, κάνει παρέα με τις άλλες κοπέλες. Το περιβάλλον της αρέσει. Όταν όμως το βράδυ τα φώτα του δωματίου σβήνουν, τότε συνειδητοποιεί τον αποχωρισμό από την οικογένειά της.

September 1976, mountainous Thesprotia, Greece. Upon advice of the village’s teacher, a mother proposes to her eleven-year-old daughter to continue her school in Ioannina, living at a girls' boarding school. They take the bus to Ioannina, arrive at the boarding school and talk to the director. The mother returns to the village the same morning. A teacher and another girl shows around the boarding school. She sews her number on her linen, walks in the garden of the school, talks to the other girls. She likes the environment, but when at night the room lights go out, then she realizes the separation from her family.
